A summary of the prophet Muhammad pbuh’s ancestors, starting from Adnan to
Abdul Mutallib. Since our references
were incomplete, we only managed to list down a few of them. We will update this space once we have more
information.
It
should be noted that Arab names were formed as - so-so + ‘bin’ (which means
‘son of’) + the father’s name.
1.
Ma’ad bin Adnan
The prophet’s 19th ancestor.
Ma’ad was a warrior and a military commander, feared by his opponents. Ma’ad was responsible for multiple attacks
and captures of Israil and was always victorious.
2.
Nizar bin Ma’ad
18th ancestor to Muhammad pbuh.
Nizar was strikingly handsome and was the best looking man during his
time. He was also very wise and
intelligent, and was respected for his aforementioned qualities.
3.
Mudhar bin Nizar
The 17th ancestor, Mudhar was as
good-looking as his father. He was also
blessed with the ability to make anyone fall in love with his looks. He was also a great poet. A source managed to record some of his poem,
one being:
“Take
yourself to what he hates. Banish
yourself from anything that could destroy him, and there are no decency or doom
apart from patience.”

Ilyas bin Mudhar
Muhammad’s 16th ancestor. He was a poet and a philosopher.

The 10th ancestor, Fihr was
famous for his resourcefulness in which he would always be able to gather food
for the pilgrims even during dry seasons or when food was scarce. He was admired for always being helpful. His house was frequented by the poor and also
by travellers.
It was from this ancestor that the Quraisy
clan was born. The Adnan Arabs
descendants, from this point were divided into two groups which are the Quraisy
and the Kinanah.
The Kinanahs were born from Malik’s other
children while Fihr’s descendants were called the Quraisy.

to Umar bin al-Khattab, a good friend of the prophet. (Umar bin al-Khattab bin Naufal bin Abdul
Uzza bin Rabah bin Abdullah bin Qirat bin Riyah bin Rizah bin Adi bin Ka’ab bin
Luay)
